For bulldog breeders, puppies are a result of a combination of luck, hard work, and intense planning. You have to monitor the female carefully to determine the optimum time for A.I., and collect sperm from the male. The Caesarean Section is traumatic to the dam, and recovery is draining for her. Puppies are hand raised, and closely monitored.

 

Now that bulldogs are becoming a "popular" breed, there are many people who are jumping into breeding them. If someone has pups available right when you call, you should question why, as most established, reputable breeders have people waiting in line for their puppies. Not every newcomer to the breed is a bad breeder, but they might not know or care about the unique characteristics of the bulldog nor know how to support their puppy owners in wading through the mis-information out there related to care of bulldogs.
